Arranging assessments (all senior awards)

Arranging assessments for all senior lifesaving awards (incl Award of Merit, Distinction, NASTC, and Life-Support 3)

The trainer is responsible for arranging an assessor directly. The assessor should not have been involved in the training of the candidates, and generally it is best for them to come from another club.

You should allow a minimum of one month’s notice – remember assessors are volunteers with busy diaries too!

We do not have a policy within the Society or the Branch with regard to assessors’ expenses. However, as a rule of thumb, if the candidates are on a commercially run course then we expect the assessor(s) to be paid the same rate of pay as the trainers plus a contribution towards their travel costs. Where the trainers are volunteers, it is polite to offer the asessor a contribution towards their travel costs.
